HISTORY
The Advanced Studies Program (ASP) is offered by Project Contemporary Competitiveness, in partnership with Bridgewater State College.  ASP 2008 will be the 41st consecutive year at Bridgewater State College...with more than 17,500 alumni.

Program Dates: June 29 – August 9, 2008

MISSION STATEMENT
To provide an intellectually enriching, socially stimulating, affordable six week residential summer program at the campus of Bridgewater State College in a friendly, supportive, learning environment with a carefully constructed balance of freedoms and responsibilities for mature ninth and tenth grade high ability students who are open to the excitement of learning, and ready for a challenge.

STUDENTS
Academically talented ninth and tenth grade students attend the program representing 20 southeastern Massachusetts member districts: Abington, Avon, Berkley, Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District, Bristol-Plymouth Regional School District, Carver, Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District, East Bridgewater, Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District, Gosnold, Harwich, Middleboro, Old Rochester Regional School District, Rockland, South Shore Vocational Technical School District, Taunton, Wareham, West Bridgewater, and Whitman-Hanson Regional School District.

STAFF
In addition to a Program Director and Administrative Assistant, there is an instructional staff of thirty six from the ranks of college professors, public, and private school teachers. College students serve as interns in the classrooms and proctors in the residence hall. The residential staff consists of a male and two female Resident Administrators, Floor Leaders and Proctors. 

ENROLLMENT ASP 2007
There were 535 students enrolled in 2007.

PROGRAM
Classes:  Each student selects two one hour and forty minute classes from the following subjects: 

Adolescents and the Law, American Sign Language, Anthropology, Aviation Science, “Catastrophies, Disasters, and the Fate of the Red Sox”, Checkmate, Creative Writing, Critic’s Corner, Drawing, Human Physiology, Improve with Improve, Jazz Band, Journalism and Publishing, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Model Rocketry, Model United Nations, Music and Movement, Historical Archaeology, Painting, PCC Website, Person to Person, Photography, Psychology, Physics & Fun, Real Robots, Real Robots II, Scrapbooking, Sculpture, Survivor Reading, Symphonic Band, Technical Theater, Television Production, Theatre, United States Wars, and Warm Cookies and Milk, and What’s So Funny.

Ø      Two and one half hours of organized recreational activities each day

Ø      Required attendance at large group instruction programs three evenings per week with an
   emphasis on current adolescent issues

Ø      There are numerous field trips to areas of interest related to class activities.

Ø      Formal productions by Music and Movement, Improve with Improv, Theatre, Jazz and Symphonic
   Band, and exhibits by Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, and Photography the final week of the program

Ø      Awards and certificates presented at the culminating activity of the program

Tuition for ASP 2007:  $1795.00

Lab fees in designated classes

Scholarships are not available through PCC.  Individual school districts may provide some assistance

The date to submit your completed application to your guidance counselor will be established by your school.
Friday, February 1 Deadline for receipt of application from member school systems
Friday, March 30 Student acceptance notification date
Wednesday, May 30 Last day for final payment of tuition and submission of medical forms
