Project Contemporary Competitiveness - Advanced Studies Program at Bridgewater State College

 

 

Program Summary

Students:  Academically talented ninth and tenth grade students (currently enrolled in grades eight and nine) attend the program representing 20 southeastern Massachusetts member districts:  Abington, Avon, Berkley, Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District, Bristol-Plymouth Regional School District, Carver, Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District, East Bridgewater, Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District, Gosnold, Harwich, Middleboro, Old Rochester Regional School District, Rockland, South Shore Vocational Technical School District, Taunton, Wareham, West Bridgewater, and Whitman-Hanson Regional School District..

Staff: In addition to a Program Director, there is an instructional staff of 36 from the ranks of college professors, public, and private school teachers.  College students serve as interns in the classrooms.  There is a residential staff of one Program Director, an Administrative Assistant, a male and two female Resident Administrators, ten Floor Leaders and forty Proctors.

Classes:  Each student selects two one hour and forty minute classes from the following subjects:  Adolescents and the Law, American Sign Language, Anthropology, Aviation Science, "Catastrophes, Disasters, and the Fate of the Red Sox", Chess, Comedy in Our Time, Creative Writing, Critic's Corner, Drawing, Human Physiology, Improve with Improve, Jazz Band, Journalism and Publishing, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Model Rocketry, Model United Nations, Music and Movement, New England Historical Archeology, Painting, PCC Website, Person to Person, Photography, Poetry, Psychology, Physics & Fun, Real Robots, Real Robots II, Scrap Booking, Sculpture, Reading, Symphonic Band, Technical Theater, Television Production, Theatre, United States Wars, and Warm Cookies and Milk.

Tuition: for ASP 2007: 1,695.00
Application Fee: $20.00
Lab fees in designated classes
Scholarships are not available through PCC. 
Individual school districts may provide some assistance.

Important Dates

Friday, February 2 Deadline for receipt of application from member school districts
Thursday, March 15 Acceptance and waiting list letters mailed
Friday, March 30 Student acceptance notification date
Monday, April 2 Deadline for $200.00 deposit
Wednesday, May 30 Last day for final payment of tuition and submission of medical forms
Tuesday, June 12 Parent Orientation 7:30 or
Wednesday, June 13 Parent Orientation 7:30
